At the age of 24, Kit married James Farrell (Jim), a grocer from St Kilda on 9th November 1898, in the newly completed St Patrick’s Basilica, South Dunedin. Jim was the son of John Farrell, an early settler of Dunedin, and his wife Mary Farrell (nee Mary Kennedy), and born in St Kilda, Dunedin c1872.
Some time during his working career, Jim was a foreman of the Mosgiel Borough Council in Otago and later he and Kit bought an orchard in Mosgiel with the name of ‘Janefield’. The 6-acre orchard grew blackcurrants, plums, apples, and pears.
Kit Farrell died from heart failure on 2 September 1949 at the age of 74 years, and Jim Farrell passed away the following year, 25 September 1950 aged 77.
James and Kit Farrell had the following children:-
Mary Lilian Farrell (Mamie) born 1 Sept 1899, became Mamie Burden.
Monica Farrell born c 1901, became Monica Suddens.
James Robert Farrell born c1902, married Ann Smith.
John Joseph Farrell (Jack)born c1904, married Elsie Wylie.
Winifred Farrell born 12 Oct 1906, became Winifred Harty, passed away on 2 Feb 1990 at Timaru.
Katherine Violet Farrell (Katy) born c1910, became Katy O'Connor.
Anita Philomena Farrell born c1916, became Anita Cursey.
Mamie married Edward Burden (Ted) on 13 February 1923 at South Dunedin. Ted was a train driver on the main trunk line, and became known as ‘Timetable Ted’ for his reliability. Ted and Mamie lived at Ngapara, Invercargill, and Oamaru. They both passed away there within a short time of each other, Mamie on 5 April 1989, and Ted on 26 January 1990.
Mamie and Ted had three children:-
Stanley Edward Burden born 30 Jan 1925, married Isobel Joy Biggs.
Enid Margaret Burden born c1927 became Enid Cox.
Cyril Albert Burden born 16 Jun 1928, married Rhena June Pullan (known as June)
Monica (also known as Maud Farrell), married Lawrence Suddens in Wellington. They settled down together in Blake Street, Blaketown, in Greymouth and had two sons. Sadly Monica died as a young mother in Greymouth on 1 January 1932. Their sons are:-

Jack married Elsie Wylie in Mosgiel, and it is believed they also lived in Greymouth, where they had children:-

Katy married George O’Connor in Dunedin. The couple went on to have four children:-

At the end of World War II, when Anita was 25 years of age, there was a terrible epidemic of tuberculosis, and unfortunately Anita contracted this disease. After a successful operation to remove part of her lung, Anita was part of the trial of the first antibiotic – Streptomycin.
At the age of 30 years, in 1947, Anita married Archibald John Cursey. Archibald, born 1 Feb 1911 was the son of John James Cursey and his wife Margaret Cursey (nee Margaret McKinley). Archie had served in the New Zealand Army during WWII, mostly in Fiji and other islands.
