Frank Whelan, born at Wetherstons, was the youngest son of Michael and Honora.
Frank married Catherine Evelyn Wall (Kate Wall) at St Patrick’s Church, Waitahuna on 29 April 1908. Frank was in charge of the Havelock Sluicing Company for a long period and had a good reputation as manager. Frank lived to the age of 83, before passing away on 15 October 1956. Kate lived for another four years, going to her rest in 1960.
Frank and Kate Whelan had three children
Thomas Bryan Whelan (Bryan) born 1 Aug 1910, married Elsie McDonald.
Marcella Helena Whelan (Cella) born 1911, became Cella Garty.
Catherine Evelyn born 1913, sadly died as an infant on 25 Aug 1913, at Waitahuna
Bryan Whelan married Elsie McDonald in 1939. In that year he is recorded in the Stones Directory as a teacher, living in Ruahine, Pahia. Bryan went on the become the headmaster of various schools. He lived to the age of 88 years, passing way in Christchurch on 7 July 1998.

Cella Whelan also became a teacher and later married John Thomas Garty in Wellington. John and Cella Garty had two daughters:-
Margaret Evelyn Garty, born 1948, became Margaret Crawford.
Anne-Marie Garty, born 1950, became Anne-Marie Biggs.
