Stephen lived
with his parents in Chewton (formerly Golden Point), Victoria, and is recorded
as a first-day pupil at the first
Roman Catholic School established there
in October 1856. This was a canvas structure reinforced with wood, with the
school being used as a chapel on Sundays.
Stephen died aged just 15 on 4 February 1858.
There is no record of the circumstances surrounding it, but we know his father Thomas purchased a plot in the newly established cemetery at Campbell’s Creek, just outside Castlemaine, and laid him to rest there.
